Soaring High with Areion and Snitzel


  • Calanda -- The Snitzel, 3yo gelding  Calanda has now won five of his 11 starts for earnings of  just over $400,000 in prizemoney . Paul Snowden said "the gelding would now be put out for a spell before returning in the spring." "Whether he goes to Sydney or to Melbourne for the spring we don't know just yet but he is a handy horse and he is paying his way.” "He is beating older horses at this age and now he has to back it up when he comes back to the track as a four-year-old." Jockey Jim Byrne ,who rode the horse for the first time in the sprint. He was Snitzel's 26th stakes winner for the season , equaling his grandsire Danehill's 15 year old record .

Soaring High -- Clare Lindop rode the Excellent Art 4yo gelding out of the Zabeel mare, Golden Eagle, to victory in the Port Augusta Cup over 2300m, on Sunday . She took the gelding to the lead rounding the turn after taking a sit for most of the race and he held off all challenges.  
    Multiple Group I winner Excellent Art was a champion European, English and Irish three-year-old and has Group I success with Under The Louvre and his second crop are in training in India. He is a son of Pivotal and has sired Group 3 winners Hazel Lavery and Experience, as well as stakes winners Artistic Jewel, Tropaios, Nimohe, and Sparkling Portrait. He also has sired French Quebec and Pegas, champions in the Czech Republic. He has Secretariat and Mr Prospector blood on the dams side and Nureyev on the Stallions. 


Excellent Art 2007 Breeders Cup Mile


Krupt -- Mr McBat won the 1600m South Grafton Cup earlier in the week. The Wyong galloper Mr McBat put a disastrous last start , Wauchope Cup in the past with a thrilling victory in the $50,000 event.
For trainer Damien Lane it was the perfect way to cap off his first trip to the Grafton July Carnival as Mr McBat and jockey Jason Taylor stormed over the top of the field to win going away.

       Krupt will stand this spring at a new property in Southern Tasmania, Kingsley Park Thoroughbreds. A good looking son of champion sire Flying Spur, Krupt always showed immense ability in training and at just his third start won the Group Two Todman Stakes and was a one time favourite for the Golden Slipper.
     "We are delighted to be standing Krupt as our first stallion at our farm at Cygnet," Kingsley Park's Rohan Gudden said. "He is a top class stallion with excellent conformation, a lovely nature and he boasts an excellent fertility rate of 90 per cent.""This is only the tip of the iceberg for Krupt. We are sure that he will be very well received in Tasmania."
"He's a proven sire that is sure to do well," he added. "He had the speed at two and his progeny show it early and importantly train on at three and four - they are durable and tough."
Krupt will be standing at a value service fee of $2,200 .


Areion -- An upset win in the BM 78 2100m event at Sandown by the 4yo Areion gelding, Global Gentl. He was Ridden by Ben Thompson and started at 50/1.
